So just went to our ward's annual Soup and Swap and thought it was something I should share for any of you out there that might be over any kind of activity groups. Each year our ward has a day (It's basically our DI drive) but from 1-5 in the afternoon you can go drop off all yoru stuff you want to take to DI at the church. Then at 6 everyone brings soup and rolls and cookies and has dinner then they open the doors and you go shopping through everyone else's stuff and just take what you want. Personally I think this is brilliant for so many reasons:
- I would love to give all the stuff I give away to DI to someone who needs it in the ward but never know who it could go to.
- It motivates me to go through my stuff and get rid of stuff (cuz I know I will be bringing in more)
- It's free dinner and free stuff (can't beat that)
- I am obsessed with free things so it is my heaven :)
- You feel like you shared and you get new fun things
- It's yard saling- or DI-ing on high cuz you don't have to pay.
Needless to say I had to have my husband literally come in and cut me off because I could have stayed there all night. My family was huge into yard saling growing up and we still love it. I think for me it is kind of a release. We never had a lot of money growing up but we had enough that we could buy whatever we wanted at yard sales. Even when I have money I have a really hard time spending it so I feel like with yard sales I can basically get whatever I want and not feel guilty. Maybe that's a sickness of some sort. ;) I LOVE to find steals on things and you would be surprised what people give up. SOO anyway, I don't know if it's good to admit that this is actually a hobby I have to buy other people's junk to make my treasure but I can tell you this much I have got some dang good deals before and it's super rewarding to get dresses and pants with a $80 price tag on them for a buck! This year I scored on dresses for Skylee which is actually all I'm lacking in the clothes area for my kids so cha-ching I got like 6 super cute dresses for her.
PS; Yard-saling etc it is funner with friends. Ashley- my next door neighbor- went with me and made it extra fun :)
PSS; Jeff doesn't understand. He just looks at my piles kinda laughs and says "Whatever makes you happy." (which was said multiple times tonight)

Love it! Our ward did something similar but it was in the morning and no food was involved. I will have to suggest that to our relief society. We did ours back in December and I got 6 shirts....was so excited about that! I think it would be neat for people to bring furniture they don't want as well (course that is worth more) Anyways, glad you had fun.
I totally love shopping yard sales too! We did a lot of our Christmas shopping that way this year. Next time your ward does this, let me know, I would to come!!
